Too Many Items is a hugely popular Minecraft add-on.

Minecraft is the world's most popular sandbox game, with more than 20 million users worldwide.

It is mainly used on PCs, although console, phone and tablet editions are available.

The game was developed by Swedish company Mojang, which was recently sold to Microsoft. Making use of blocky terrain and retro-style pixelated graphics, Minecraft is an infinite sandbox where users can create, craft, mine, build and survive. While there is a game aspect to it, Minecraft appeals mainly for its creative possibilities, with users building vast cities and worlds.

Too Many Items is a game modification - known as a 'mod'. Minecraft mods are phenomenally popular, as they allow users to alter the original game with their own add-ons. Mods are usually created by game enthusiasts using Java code, who then make their work available on websites such as www.minecraftforum.net. These mods are always offered for free, with the option to donate to the original coder. However, as they are not officially endorsed, they are downloaded at the user's own risk.

While some mods can mess up your game - and even your PC - many add entire new dimensions to the game. Too Many Items is one of these - one of the original and best mods created, it is a very popular and well-known programme when downloaded and installed safely from trusted websites.

The Too Many Items mod is an inventory editor, incredibly useful for users who want to build their own Minecraft worlds as it allows you to use blocks usually not allowed in the game. These can include water-source blocks and the Nether Portal block.

It allows you to view crafting recipes for every single item, spawn in every single item and edit every single item. For example, you can enchant items, create custom potions and rename them without having to spend precious experience points.

Too Many Items is slightly more complex to install than other mods, as it does not utilise the Minecraft mod-loader Minecraft Forge. But, once installed, it is well worth it, as it gives you instant access to every single block. More creative builders will be able to have a lot of fun with the vast scope it gives.

While all these blocks are available in the game, Too Many Items just makes the process of accessing them a whole lot easier.

It is very easy to use - there is simply a list of every single block in the game which you access by opening your inventory. You either click the box to get them, or set the mod to show which recipes they are used in.

Apart from the tricky install, the only other downside is the self-limiting aspect of Too Many Items. For example, enchantment levels stop at the normal in-game limits instead of going on into the stratosphere. Potion effects are also not infinite, and neither are the amount of items you can spawn.

Overall, Too Many Items is an incredibly popular mod for good reason - one of the originals, it is still downloaded and loved by many for the sheer map-building scope it brings to the world'd best sandbox.

  • Every single recipe at your fingertips

  • Everything it offers is already available in the game
  • Trickier to install than similar mods
  • Doesn't always go as far as it could
